May Book Haul

Hmmm well this is going to be a very short post!! I actually didn't buy any books in May!! I have checked and rechecked!! But nope, nothing!! I did however pick up a preorder from the YA Preview Night, which was Unexpected Everything, which I also got in my YA Chronicles Box !! Oh and I received The Crown, which I preordered from the book depository.

I am though, tempted to pick up Since You've Been Gone, by Morgan Matson!! Ya never know today is May 30, and I do have to go through the city (technically straight past Boffins - via a little detour) to get to my appointment in Fremantle this afternoon!!!!!

And.... I am happy to report that I have read them both!

Total Books read in May - 8!! These were ...

Unbecoming by Jenny Downham
The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff
Scripted by Maya Rock
The Sidekicks by Will Kostakis
The Crown by Kiera Cass
The End of the World as we Know it by Iva-Marie Palmer
The Next Together by Lauren James
The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson!

YA Chronicles

Yep you guessed it! I decided to check out the YA Chronicles.

This is a subscription box that comes each month with a different theme, containing a new release book, a book mark and some bookish treats.

The May theme was "Summer Daze". It was delivered while I was at work and I managed to wait until Taneika got home from work AND ate her dinner before we did the unboxing together!  - I am seriously getting good at this skill called 'patience'

So what was in the box?? Well the blurb reads

"...summer daze, driftin' away. Australia is well and truly on its way to Winter, so let's ignore the cold and enjoy this cozy, Summer read. The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson is a story about how it is when your perfectly laid plans go awry, that you get exactly what you need. Andie has every second of her summer pinned out, but when scandal rocks her father's career, her plans are turned on their head..."

The Book - The Unexpected Everything! What was so 'unexpected' about this, was that just recently at the YA Preview night I preordered this book and only picked it up a week prior!! haha Funny thing is, when I was thinking of jumping in and checking out the YA Chronicles, when I thought of the theme Summer Daze - I thought of this book - wondered if it would be the book in the box but then ordered anyway!! Lol - Guess what?? Yep Tinny scored the book!! which coincidently she nearly bought the day I got my parcel!!!

The Loot

- A sweet smelling Fairy Bread Candle (from Nook and Burrow

- A cute little Sun Magnetic Bookmark (from TheWoodsAvenue on Etsy)

- A Super relaxing Bath Bomb in Grapefruit (from ALLBODY SOAPS on Etsy)

So the Instructions are to Light the Candle, fill the tub (I don't have one so will use in a foot soak) throw in the bath bomb and crack open The Unexpected Everything. Viola, instant summer relaxation.

Isn't it gorgeous!!! Anyway the them for June is Pride. So we are thinking this will be a LGBT novel for Pride month, and think we may have a good idea on what book it may be..lets see if our guess is correct.

April Book Haul

Well lookie here!! Taneika is definitely a bad influence!! My book hauls are getting worse than hers! Her pictures are way better and her videos are awesome - so for next month my plan is to do a more inspiring photo!!

Going back to my march book haul, what did I actually get around to reading .... a few!! Phew, that's lucky .. enough to keep the hubby from complaining!!

I read the Selection Series - Marathoned them! Really enjoyed them and am now waiting to get my hands on The Crown this month!! The Intern and Faking It were also two fun and quick reads. Lastly The Girl Who Just Appeared, this was also a very interesting read, and had a twist at the end - I sort of guessed how it would end, but it was great to read how it played out.  So out of a haul of (crikey!!) 24 books, I actually read 8!! So pretty good I think!!

So anyways....on to April.... not as many, but a great month in my book (haha - see what I did there!!?? )

Taneika and I went to an Op Shop while out one day and I picked up a couple, we went to a YA Preview night at Boffins Bookstore! Which was AWESOME and with 25% off the books that we previewed if we preordered and also a massive 25% off al YA on the night - well, I felt sorry for my credit card!! and I also picked up a few bargains on the buy and sell pages, again! So what did I get??

Lets start with Ray ...

Stories of my Life The Autobiography Ray Martin

Who doesn't love Ray Martin (from my generation anyway) Scored this one for the Op Shop for $4 and it is signed!! Didn't notice that until I got home!! Can't wait to have a read through this as his interviews were always amazing!!

My James by Ralph Bulger

This is the first one that caught my eye at the Op Shop, and I know this will be a very sad read.

The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff

Op Shop again, sound like an interesting read.

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

Taneika first picked this up then put it back, when I read the back it sound rather cool and when looked it up on Goodreads and found is part of a series and they all sounded pretty good I decided to grab it (at $3.25 why not) Though if I enjoy it I will order the box set of all four - gotta have matching covers!!

The Body Institute by Carol Riggs

This story sounded amazing!! Who wouldn't want your mind swapped with someone who will go and work out for you and get your body in perfect shape then swap back!!??? Ummmm Me!!!! But nothing ever goes as plans does it??? Great read!! Yep - read it already!! Picked this one up from Boffins as won a $25 gift card from work.

Scripted by Maya Rock

YA Preview night!! This looked pretty awesome, again around the Reality TV kinda theme.

The Cipher by Jon C.  Ford

This one just sounds amazing, cracking codes, secrets a bit of mystery!!! Count me in. YA Preview night = discount = on my bookshelf!!

The Next Together by Lauren James

A bit of love, destiny, separation, time. Sound like my kinda story. This one I must have picked up and put back at least 5 times! So finally on the YA Preview night. I was told I was not allowed to put it back!!

The End of the World as we Know It by Iva-Marie Palmer

Another one picked up and put back a couple of times, so with a discount on offer decided it was time to read :-)

Once I was a Princess by Jacqueline Pascarl
Annies Girl  by Maureen Coppinger
If I am Missing or Dead by Janine Latus
Shame by Jasvinder Sanghera

All of these are books purchased on the buy and sell pages, all true stories, that I love reading even if they make you cry.

Follow me Back by Nicci Cloke

This one is another that is suited to this day and age relating to the dangers of meeting people online and cyber safety.  Loved this one.

So that is my April Haul.  I also picked up a chapter sampler for Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare and Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes from the YA night at Boffins. I have already read The Body Institute and Follow Me back and hope to attack a few more of them in this first couple weeks of May.

You never know, I may have a post with some cards this month too!!

March Book Haul

Hi again,

So while discussing with my niece Taneika what things I should post to my new revamped blog ... she suggested I do a Book Haul (seeing as I seem to be purchasing just as many books as her!!) Now Tinny does a video book haul on her YouTube channel Flipping Through Pages- but nope not getting me to do that, so I thought I would just post a pic and show you what I have acquired :-)

Just a few there (whoops) ... so what do we have? ... starting left to right the top two are a bit dark

Dangerous Creatures - Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
Dangerous Deception - Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

I really enjoyed the Beautiful Creatures Books, so when I saw these in Big W just had to grab!!

Everneath, Everbound and Evertrue - Brodi Ashton

These were all recommended by Taneika and when Book Depository give you a discout - well its a must have!!

The Intern and Faking It - Gabrielle Tozer

Both very enjoyable and an Australian Author for our 2016 Book Challenge (See separate page ^^)

The Selection Series and Happily Ever After - Kiera Cass

So we had been watching The Bachelor (guilty pleasure!!) and Tinny was talking about this series and how I MUST read it ... again Book Depository and their discount!! Seriously!!!

Damaged - Cathy Glass
The Sky Isn't Visable From Here - Felicia C. Sullivan
All of Me - Kim Noble
Waiting to be Heard - Amanda Knox

I love reading books based on or true stories. These came up on the Buy and Sell pages and I think I got them for, like, $2 each!!

FirstLife - Gena Showalter

I liked the cover for this one and also the storyline, when I got it home and showed Taneika she squealed!! - Sign of a good choice!

The Girl Who Just Appeared - Jonathan Harvey

The Guardian Angel's Journal - Carolyn Jess-Cooke
Red Rose, White Rose Joanna Hickson
The Atlas of Us - Tracy Buchanan

Again, I blame the Book Depository!! 50% off sale and all of these titles intrigued me.

The Darkest Minds, Never Fade, In the Afterlight - Alexandra Braken

I have already read The Darkest Minds a couple years ago and never knew that there were two other books. When I discovered them I went searching for matching covers to my copy - but nope!! So I ended up getting all three, Taneika had seen them at the Big W near her work, so trotted down and found them! Now they were hidden behind some other books!! So whoever was hiding them to come back and grab them later ... sorry!! :-) PLUS I won a $50 voucher at work - so what better thing to spend it on :-)

All These Perfect Strangers - Aoife Clifford

This one I have picked up and put down several times, so finally grabbed it .

and finally ...

Missing, Presumed - Susie Steiner

Again another book that just grabbed me.

I've been really getting in to reading again this year, doesn't help that Tinny is living with us and we basically discuss books!! (love ya Tinny) We are doing a 2016 Reading Challenge, and I am creating a separate page to list the books and categories of what I have read - so that will appear on the Navigation Bar ^^ and will be updated as I get through my challenges.

If you got to the end of this post, thanks for reading, and I hope to see you back soon.

Hello Life

Stampin Up have this awesome Kit, the Hello Life Simply Created Kit, which basically is a Vision Board Kit. They also bought out a tutorial to make 20 Cards using the supplies. These are Notecard size, and I prefer my cards to be standard so I stepped them all up a bit with some matting and here is the result of my 20 cards. I now have all the left over bits to use on other cards and also to use on my own Vision Board.

The Original Tutorial Cards

Slideshow of My Cards

And there you go, you lucky reader!! My first photo slideshow!! I am learning :-)

My next Card Kit to attack will be my stepped up version of the Watercolour Wishes Kit.
