Ella's Perth Visit

Well it is no secret that I am very fond of my little niece Ella!! When I saw this CD Cover on Makeesha's Blog I knew straight away what I wanted to do! I had still not sent Jenni through the photos that I took on her whirlwind visit here to Perth, so I decided to put them all on a CD, make a cover and pop them in the mail as a surprise! It hit like a lightning bolt! The colours I would use, the picture I would put on the front and even the 'delightful' in the scallop!! All came to me in a flash! Gotta love that!! No thinking, No Colour matching, No choosing stamp sets!! It was all there! YAY. And didn't it turn out beautiful (blowing my own trumpet here!). It also helps when you have a beautiful smiling face to inspire you too! (This pic is my desktop background at the moment). It is very easy to make, so click on the link and take a look at Makeesha's tutorial.

A Wedding Card by Request

I had a special request for a wedding card that featured a Rose and incorporated a 'Rose Vow' from the ceremony (which is a lovely idea). So this is what I came up with. Being a 'special' card for a very 'special' occassion needed a very 'special' embellishment!! And seeing I had just received my Pretties Kit!! it was a perfect opportunity to use the Hat Pins that I have been dying to play with!! The card features a 3D Paper Tole Rose, a bit of layering, a background stamp and 'The Hat Pin' I think the hardest thing about making up this card was positioning the wording from the Rose Vow around the border of the shimmer paper. (Took forever to get it just right!) Oh and a tip for printing on shimmer, so it doesn't bleed or smudge - print using the transperancy paper setting!, it prints a lot slower as it layers the ink on top of the paper. You need to leave it to dry for a bit, but it turns out heaps better than using the plain paper option! I haven't tried this setting for vellum yet, but I think it should have a similar effect.

(Please excuse the darkness of the photo! It has been so wet in Perth of late so i had to take it inside, but with shimmer paper I couldn't use a flash, so this is the best out of the (like 10!!) photos that I took.)

Materials Used - Stampin Up! - Handsome Hunter Cardstock & Ink, Pretties Kit, Very Vanilla Taffeta Ribbon, French Script BG Stamp (Retired). Reddy Creative Cards - White Rose 3D Image. Other - Stardream Paper - Quartz

One of my friends loved it!! So I have to make another one now!! I have also been working on some other little projects which I can't share quite yet!! but stay tuned....I will post them soon.

Heartfelt Thanks

Here is another card I was playing with on Friday and Saturday. My friend bought a card which used Heartfelt Thanks last year, and wanted another one. I really love these colours together!! This card is sort of based on the card in the IB&C (page 82). The 'Thanks' has been stamped on Vanilla and then each letter has been cut with slight angles, then is glued to a vanilla offcut and recut with a slight border. This is then raised and a couple of Kaiser Pearls added (gotta love those Pearls in every colour imaginable!!)
Materials Used - Stampin Up! - Chocolate Chip, Soft Sky, Blue Bayou and Very Vanilla Cardstock, Chocolate Chip, Soft Sky, Blue Bayou, Certainly Celery and Wild Wasabi Inks, Heartfelt Thanks & Canvas BG Stamp Sets. Soft Sky Double Stitched Ribbon & Mat Pack. Kaiser - Pearls.

Paper Tole Poppies

I am actually really pleased with the way this card turned out. Again I am using Paper Tole, (I love it!!) I generally start off with the main image and consult my Stampin Up! colour chart first. If I can't match the colours with the cardstock I then go to my Bazzill files, but this one worked perfectly with Stampin Up!. The patterned background is from the Palette o Prints Pack. I matted the main image easily but couldn't get the background to work, I sat there for ages playing with different colours, but kept going back to Olive, but it needed something on it as plain just didn't work, so off I trotted to consult the cupboard where all my stamps sets are and settled on the little butterfly background from Beyond Basics, which I stamped with versamark. I tried a square card, a normal sized card, then settled on a 12x17cm card. More white needed to be brought in (but not too much). Then BAMM! it hit, I used my corner punch for the cute scallops and then added the satin ribbon and the pearls!!
Materials Used - Stampin Up! - Old Olive, More Mustard, Really Rust Cardstock and Inks, Saffron DP Patterned Paper. Beyond Basics BG Stamp - Butterflies, Versmark. Kaiser - Pearls. Other - White Card & Mustard Satin Ribbon.

Happy Sweet 16 Taneika!!

Happy Birthday Taneika!!
This is my favourite pic of my niece! A bit old now, she must have been 13 or 14 in this photo. Come on Taneika! We need a new photo!! Maybe one of you and Ella too!!

I can actually post Taneika's card now as she has received it. I have been at a bit if a loss for inspiration at the moment, but sat down and got this put together. I got to use my corner punch from Stampin Up! and did some scallops!! So easy! Love it!!

Materials Used - I have used my Cricut to cut out the 16 using the Alphalicious Cartridge (My Favourite for numbers and names), Bazzill Bling cardstock, Cuttlebug with the Happy Birthday embossing folder, Assorted Flowers, Kaiser Rhinestones, a rhinestone brad and some Rub Ons. Oh and of course! my corner punch from Stampin Up!

July is a very busy month for my family!! Taneika's birthday is the day before mine and one of my other nieces, Caitlin, shares the same birthday with me!! So there is absolutely no excuse to miss their birthdays (though sometimes I am a little late). I made a card for Caitlin (12) using some gorgeous MAMBI characters! I bought several sticker sheets a couple of years ago and am still working my way through them!! I stick the image to white card and rub over it with a scorer to clear any air underneath. I then cut it out and raise it over a background. For some reason I cannot find the picture (I am sure I would have scanned it!! I scan EVERYTHING!!) but I will make some more up soon - as another layout has popped into my head that will suit these stickers perfectly!! So stay tuned.

Catchya Later

While searching for Poems....

I am searching on a couple of Poem sites looking for some lovely poetry to go inside some cards that I have made. (I can't post them yet as they haven't been received by the recipients, but will post later in the week) I came across this one, had a giggle and just had to share as I am sure many of our Dear Hubby's can relate!! Here goes...

Ode To My Wife, The Stamper

She learned to stamp on Monday
Her embossing was quite fine.
She forgot to set out dinner,
So we went out to dine.

She brayered backgrounds Tuesday
She says they are a must.
They really were quite lovely
But she forgot to dust.

On Wednesday it was birthday cards
She says that chalking's fun.
Shading, blending, and watercoloring.
But the laundry wasn't done.

Her card swap was on Thursday
Using green and blue and red.
I guess she really was engrossed,
She never made the bed!

It was shaker cards on Friday
Using techniques she just adores,
But she never seemed to notice
The crumbs on all the floors.

I found a maid on Saturday!
My week is now complete
My wife can stamp the hours away,
The house will still be neat.

Well, it's already Sunday,
And my forehead's feeling damp.
I cursed, I raved, and I ranted. . .
The MAID has learned to stamp!!!

Hope you enjoyed it!! Now I am off to finish up these cards. I have added links to a couple of Poem Sites in the sidebar.

Learning HTML

Bear with me here guys!! I love this new template, but for some reason it doesn't like to put spaces between the paragraphs, so I am having to rewrite some of the HTML to make it look pretty!! (as I am a fussy old soul!!) I dug out our trusty "Teach yourself HTML Visually" book and am learning to fix them myself!! When I have figured it out I will go back and edit some of the older posts, especially my "Tribute to Mum" post as this template has taken out the line spacing between the verses of the Poem - and it just doesn't look right to me!!

A Beautiful Card from a Beautiful Friend

WOW Isn't this gorgeous??!! After a rather glum and gloomy start to my birthday (I am tired and run down after having a monster headache yesterday). My friend tracey popped around this afternoon with this masterpiece!! How cute are those little bunnies!! and I love the layout. Then when you open it up there is this cute and rather true little poem inside! I will share....

Dear Caroline
Crafts are here, crafts are there. Her craft supplies are everywhere.
She really should clean her mess, But I like it, I confess.
Floor is littered, chairs are piled, kitchens' looking pretty wild,
on the table, counter too, seems that any place will do!
Table is stacked with cartons high, filled with things folks like to buy.
Bedroom is full, but there's still room to sleep.
Her family smiles, they don't complain, although at times crafting can be a pain.
But when is all said and done, Caroline really is a crafty one!

So cool!! Don't you think. My hubby and boys got me some Stampin Up! goodies. I now have Boatloads of Love, Think Happy Thoughts, Fast and Fun Notes, Corner Rounder Punch and the Colour Caddy Extender!! YAY I can now do yummy little scallops. Tomorrow I will (hopefully) have a play with those.

So till next time Seeya!!

Some Christmas Cards

Hi again! Well I have been playing with some K&Company Christmas Cardmaking Kits that I bought a couple of years ago!! They were cute little packs with Glittered Icons, Tags and Greetings with coordinating Metallic and Patterned Cardstock also Rubons and Stickers (I am trying to get through alot of the non SU stuff that I have purchased over the years - to make room for more SU stuff!!) at this rate I should be able to get out the stamp sets I got with my starter kit around March next year!! haha Not really I do play with my stamps and love seeing everyone elses work too, I also try to combine my SU stuff with the other, to get use out of both, especially the Background Stamps, Inks and Cardstock.
These are really challenging me as I am finding that I am not too keen on the patterned papers. So it looks like I might put them aside for a while and pull it all out again a bit later, and maybe just use the Sentiments and give the boys the paper and stickers to make their own cards for their school friends.
That's it for me today. Take care and Keep Warm!!

A Trip Down Memory Lane

Remember those songs you used to sing at school assemblies? Depending on your age, do you remember those Sing! Sing! Sing! Books (hope I am not looking ancient here!! lol). Well for some reason I have those songs swimming around in my head!! The Pushbike Song, Ob-la-di Ob-la-da (or Desmond had a trolley...) anyway I think it is the Ad on tv at the moment with Catch a Falling Star and the little boy is collectiing the moments in the jars. Well this has brough back a lovely memory of school where I changed the words to the song The Marvellous Toy (playing on my playlist) I loved the song and I changed the words to suit my Horsey Head Trike for a project in English. I remember I did a really good job, and I know I kept it, but somewhere along the way I have lost it - sadness! So my point of this post! To all you scrapbookers, bloggers etc, it is not only the photos and the moments you want to preserve, it is also those wonderful school projects that don't seem important at the time (when you are sorting through the hoards of paper that come home at the end of the school year) I wish I still had the project so I could share it with my boys when these memories surface. Instead I have found the song online and found a picture of the trike and have retold the memory. Owen loved the song and bopped to it!! I sang along and Jayden told me to keep the noise down as he is trying to watch The Wizard of Oz!! (Oh well can't please them all!! lol) And yes that is me at the tender age of about 4 or 5 I think!
Back with some cards soon.

The Definition of TORTURE!!!

torture n., v., 1. the act of inflicting excrutiating pain, especially after resigning yourself to the fact that your Stampin' Up! order had not arrived Friday and therefore would sit outside your front door till you arrive home from work on Monday, only to find it on your doorstep 9.30am Saturday morning, but receive a stern "No!" from the husband as you have a Birthday Party to get ready for with children arriving at 12 noon!!
My ribbons are in that box!!!! My Birthday Present is in that box!!! (which even more torture is to be inflicted as my birthday is still two weeks away!!) and I am not allowed to open it till we get home from the movies and the 8 little munchikins have been collected at 5pm!! "Oh the pain"
Sad till 6

Happy Birthday Marrisa

Marrisa is my 'soon to be' 11 y/o son's bestest friend!! They met in Kindy and were in the same class up until the end of year three!! Then I threw a spanner in the works and moved my boys to a smaller school!! So we then had to have a set day play date!! or they just couldn't survive!! Milk Choc Chip Muffins are also a MUST on these play days!! Marrisa's birthday is the day that Jayden was due! (I stress WAS) He made me go 10 days over!! Anyway...I do go on! I know. This is her Birthday Card for this year. The image is from my 3D Toreads Book!! such cute little characters and this one reminds me of Marrisa!! I have used SC126 from Splitcoast stampers, I couldn't match the colours too well with my Stampin' Up! cardstock, so went back to my Bazzill binders.

"Happy Birthday Marrisa"

Materials Used - Bazzill Cardstock - Artesian Pool, Fussy, Wheat, Vanilla & Root Beer. Stampin' Up! - Mat Pack, Velvet Ribbon Flirty Ribbon Originals. Kaiser - Rhinestones
